Madison Quarry, in previous years brought numerous divers and their families to the City of Madison to participate in SCUBA activities. During their stay in Madison, the divers frequently visited local restaurants, stores and hotel/motels during the weekends. Reopening the quarry would bring hundreds of divers from surrounding cities, counties, and states back to City of Madison, which would benefit the local economy as well as provide income for the Water and Wastewater Board of the City of Madison. The closing of the Madison Quarry has created a hardship for SCUBA Divers not only in North Alabama, but Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia as well. Due to the current price of fuel, use of the Madison Quarry would also lower the expenses incurred by divers in the Southeast when traveling to dive locations.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens and business owners/managers who urge the Water and Wastewater Board of the City of Madison to reopen the Madison Quarry for recreational SCUBA activities.
